When your wedding has been put on lockdown, here’s a few tips to survive the stress of it all.
1. Take a step back
You’ve spent months or even years planning your big day, chosing every single detail, flowers, colours, suits, finding THE dress, and just as you were getting close to the main event, you are hit with the awfulness of Corona Virus. Some of my couples had mere days to go before the country was asked to stay home and all gatherings were cancelled. It must be so devestating to have something you have dreamed for whipped away in an instant, or to not even know what’s happening with your date yet. Will we be in lockdown still in June? At the moment, no one seems to know, so for now do what helps you. Stay calm, do something that helps you relax and wait. If you are planning to DIY some of your wedding, then get ordering the bits you need an get cracking.
Lots of the wedding invitations I design are available in DIY options, professionally printed and cut ready for you to make them; the best of both worlds, professional invitations, made by you!
2. Check your insurance
If you took out wedding insurance, now is the time to call in and see how they can help. If your wedding has been cancelled because of COVID19, then you should have the option to move your date but check what you are covered for in your insurance.
3. Postpone – Change the date
Talk to your venue, they should be able to offer you an alternative date to hold your big day. I have heard of a few couples choosing to keep their original date and do the legal bit with 2 witnesses. They have then planned the celebration at a later, safer date. Whichever option you choose, don’t forget to keep your guests up to date, a nice way to do this is with ‘Change the Date’ cards. You can keep to the theme of your wedding invitations or go for something a little fun!
4. Talk to your suppliers
Give us a call, we are all in this together! I would keep in mind that most suppliers will be as flexible as possible, but a fair few may not be able to swap your wedding date as simply as you might think, they may be booked up on your new date. Most wedding suppliers are small businesses, usually people working for themselves in their gorgeous wedding biz, so this is as tough on them as it is on you. If they aren’t able to help on your new date, ask for their recomended supplier who may be available, we all network and can usually point a couple in the right direction of another supplier. Over the years, I have made loads of wedding friends, people who I know I can confidently suggest to customers because they are reliable, so it’s always worth an ask!
5. Remember why you are getting married in the first place
At the end of the day, you’re getting married because you want to show your love for your partner. If you do this next month or next year it will still be such a wonderful day because your friends and family are there to celebrate your love together. If this pandemic has done anything postitive, it’s brought us all together while we stay apart.
Stay safe,
Best wishes Emily x
